What is emergency dentistry?
KNOCKED-OUT TOOTH
Otherwise referred to as an avulsed tooth, a knocked-out tooth is perhaps one of the top-five dental emergencies that Vibrant Dental sees most often. Some common causes of knocked-out teeth are trauma due to accidents, recreational activities, or falls. If you have had a tooth knocked out, you must act quickly to minimize long-term damage and increase the chances of your dentist being able to save the tooth.
BROKEN OR CRACKED TOOTH
Second on our list is a broken or cracked tooth. If you have suffered from this dental emergency, don't worry! Depending on the severity of the damage, the dentist may be able to repair the tooth with a filling or crown.
DENTAL ABSCESS
We're not sure why, but many people tend to overlook dental abscesses as an emergency - even though the consequences can be quite severe. Big mistake. You see, a dental abscess (be it a periapical abscess or periodontal abscess) is caused by a bacterial infection. Unfortunately, if left untreated, a dental abscess can travel throughout the body, resulting in serious complications such as sepsis.
SEVERE TOOTHACHE
Severe toothaches often come after subtle beginnings, making it easy to ignore them in the early stages. But left untreated, these problems can lead to much more serious issues. If you experience a toothache, it's important to seek emergency dental care as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Check out these frequently asked questions, or call us to speak with our team.
Can teeth whitening damage teeth?
We utilize products that are safe and effective to whiten your teeth and recommend yearly touch-ups to keep your smile bright and vibrant. However, it is important to avoid over-whitening your teeth with over-the-counter teeth whitening kits as they may contain dangerously-high levels of peroxide. Dr. Valdes will be happy to discuss which whitening options are best for you.
Which teeth whitening products actually work?
There are two categories of teeth whitening products that actually work.
The first are abrasive whiteners, such as toothpaste that contains baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), and other very mild abrasives. These abrasives work similarly to sandpaper, rubbing plaque and surface stains away from your teeth while leaving your enamel intact.
We recommend avoiding charcoal toothpaste, which is abrasive enough to damage your enamel with frequent use. When in doubt, stick to an ADA-approved whitening toothpaste.
The second category are peroxide-based chemical whiteners. While these are available over-the-counter, it’s best to work with a dentist to get your desired results and ensure that your teeth or gums are not damaged.
To explore your options in further detail and make sure you choose a safe, effective teeth whitening product, get in touch with us for a consult.
Does teeth whitening cause sensitivity?
Its true that some patients may experience minor sensitivity after teeth whitening. However, this is temporary and will resolve in a few days. At Vibrant Dental, we use whitening products with desensitizing agents to help minimize or eliminate sensitivity entirely.
